Richie Culver

2 September 2022 - 18 September 2022

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Paying homage to the unwritten dictates of Hong Kong’s unique vernacular spaces, and Tai Hang’s long-standing garages, shops and dwellings. Salvaging the familiar, the overlooked, and the uncanny, SIDE SPACE aspires to explore the space between the absolute and its alternate, and aspires to stimulate an environment of diversity and perspectives.

The SIDE SPACE’s forth exhibition will be a collaboration with English artist Richie Culver and 4BYSIX, a non-profit organisation that commissions and sells unique artworks by world-renowned contemporary artists and designers. 4BYSIX salvage bus panels and parts from old decommissioned London buses, they then ship them to artists who turn them into unique artworks.

Part of the proceeds will be used for charitable purposes.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Born in Hull in the North of England into a working- class family, Culver was not exposed to art growing up and left school with no qualifications to work in a factory making caravans. His practice encompasses diverse elements that range from painting, sculpture and photography to digital performance. Within this, Culver’s work is largely biographical wrestling with aspects of contemporary masculinity, the class system and the digital lens through which we live our lives.
