EVENT DESCRIPTION

M+, Asia’s first global museum of contemporary visual culture in the West Kowloon Cultural District, and Design Trust will host a half day talk event, Research on the Move: Dialogues with M+ / Design Trust Research Fellows on Friday, 25 June 2022, which will bring together eight M+ / Design Trust Research Fellows from 2015 to 2019. In this reunion, the fellows will converse with Hong Kong–based practitioners who have been influential in exploring similar fields through a series of topic-orientated dialogues.

The dialogues will reflect on how past research inquiries were or are being shaped by the fellows’ continuous research trajectories, and how they resonate with the works of each practitioner. Organised to mark M+’s recent opening and Design Trust’s continued support, this event aims to stimulate further development in historical and practice-based research and reconsider the museum’s role in these endeavours. There will be two reflection sessions moderated by M+ Curators of Design and Architecture Sunny Cheung and Shirley Surya.

The event is designed in a hybrid format, which will take place at Grand Stair, M+ and online via Zoom. It is the first hybrid talk event at M+ Grand Stair that engages local and oversea panels and audiences dynamically and sustainably through technology outside of webinars. Simultaneous interpretation in Cantonese will be available.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

The M+ / Design Trust Research Fellowship was established in 2015 to cultivate such a practice by supporting historians, practitioners or curators, from and beyond Hong Kong. It is framed as a form of curatorial research into the histories and processes of design and architectural production in Hong Kong and the region. The fellows’ research, in turn, could inform M+’s approach in curating, collecting, and knowledge-sharing with M+’s audiences.
