Music on the Rails

26 November 2022 - 27 November 2022

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Foundation for the Arts and Music in Asia (FAMA), in collaboration with Hong Kong Tramways Limited (Tramways), presents Music on the Rails, a unique music programme celebrating French Classical Music and our local heritage.

Music on the Rails features the antique red tram No. 128, which will be transformed into a moving stage running from Sheung Wan to Causeway Bay on 26 & 27 November 2022, 12:30pm – 8:00pm. A group of young local operatic singers will be showcasing their talents, performing well known French operatic pieces and famous classical arias with live piano accompaniment from the tram, as it travels along the designated route.

A crossover between culturally significant fine arts tradition and our historically important local icon, Music on the Rails aims to bring classical music into the Hong Kong community where they live, work and play. Dedicated to raise awareness of the arts, FAMA believes that this event will give the public an unforgettable music experience, encourage people to discover classical music in a fun and unusual way and view this art form and Hong Kong tramcars from a fresh perspective.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Foundation for Arts and Music in Asia (FAMA) was formed to increase the awareness of classical vocal music in Asia and to encourage participation in its promotion by individuals and both private and civic groups. FAMA works with governmental agencies, private individuals, and groups on a wide range of activities to promote community outreach to raise awareness of vocal music. FAMA aims to be a supportive mechanism for audience and financial development for other Arts organisations. FAMA believes that the support of local singers is very important, and FAMA often gives young local talent a chance to perform in concerts and events such as this. FAMA has a history of supporting selected individuals in the pursuit of their studies by offering scholarships to students from the Music Department of the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts. These scholarships may support students in language and vocal studies in Europe during the summer vacation or can help with tuition where family circumstances are limited. FAMA also follows students’ progress to see how the scholarship has enabled them to develop their talent, as well as offering performance opportunities to them during their studies and after their graduation. Since 2009, FAMA has brought the Metropolitan Opera of New York’s The Met: Live in HD series to Hong Kong. These presentations bring productions of the one of the world’s leading opera companies to Hong Kong with the aim of promoting opera to Hong Kong public, community outreach and raising awareness of vocal music.
