EVENT DESCRIPTION

In 2023, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels co-presents with French May Arts Festival Les Traceurs by Rachid Ouramdane, as part of a Dance Festival in Hong Kong.

With Les Traceurs, air artists (flyers, acrobats…) and celestial athletes (highliners, climbers…) are challenged to perform high above the ground on exceptional locations – whether in a natural or an urban environment. Beyond its utterly spectacular nature, the guiding line consists of making the sensitive appropriateness of such enterprises salient, to change the perception of these locations where the action takes place and to reveal the intimate relationship of each personality with his or her practice. Ever since 2020, several performances were produced in France (Grenoble, Annecy, Aussois, Paris) and abroad (Italy, Brazil).

The choreographer Rachid Ouramdane will be leading an exclusive aerial choreography workshop on May 18 at the Xiqu Center, studio 1. A good level of dance would be required.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Rachid Ouramdane stages complex performances on the theme of representation, bringing choreographic portraits to prominence. His work has long been grounded in an intricate collection of personal accounts, enriched with video components to explore the realm of the intimate. Today, his creative energy is directed towards choreographic writing based on principles of accumulation, intended for large ensembles such as the Opéra de Lyon Ballet (Tout Autour, 2014)

A frequent guest artist in France and abroad, he has created works for institutions including Russian company Migrazia Borscheviks (Une Histoire Vraie, 2010), the Candoco Dance Company in the U.K. (Looking Back, 2011) and the Ballet de Lorraine (Murmuration, 2017). He has also collaborated with Collectif XY (Möbius, 2019). Transmission and exchanges make up another focal point of his work. Rachid Ouramdane was associate artist at Bonlieu-Scène Nationale in Annecy from 2005 to 2015, and at Théâtre de la Ville in Paris from 2010 to 2015. Between 2016 and March 2021, he served as co-director of CCN2 – Centre Chorégraphique National de Grenoble – alongside Yoann Bourgeois. He became director of Chaillot-Théâtre National de la Danse in April 2021.
