EVENT DESCRIPTION

The West Kowloon Cultural District embodies the development of creative industries and encourages cross-genre collaborations to bring quality arts and culture programmes to the audience. Talented local musicians will come together at Freespace and Lau Bak Livehouse in July 2022 to explore new perspectives on pop and beyond.

Freespace Ensemble Pop Plus pushes the boundaries of Pop Music
“Freespace Ensemble Pop Plus” – a long weekend full of new collaborations by members of Freespace Ensemble and selected local artists under the theme of “Pop”.

“Freespace Ensemble Pop Plus: Kraftwerk Reimagined” – drummer Blue Kwok teams up with musicians from diverse musical backgrounds to reconstruct the classics of the avant-garde German band Kraftwerk from a distinctive perspective of sound aesthetics. “Freespace Ensemble Pop Plus: Joyce Cheung, Kiri T and Moon Tang” brings together jazz pianist Joyce Cheung, singer-songwriters Kiri T and Moon Tang and the expanded line-up of Freespace Ensemble musicians, showcasing a magical combination of pop, R&B and jazz. “Freespace Ensemble Pop Plus: Jonathan Yang – VENT!” – local singer-songwriter Jonathan Yang, with his signature dark noise aesthetic and an added touch of dark humour, leads Freespace Ensemble musicians to tell a surreal music tale with physical theatre elements.

“Music Palate” Saturday Free Live Gigs at Lau Bak Livehouse continue the pop exploration
Wander to Lau Bak Livehouse at Freespace every Saturday night this July for live music. Continuing the exploration of “Pop”, the collaboration with music platform “C Plus Music” features exciting singer-songwriters and local units including Lil’ Ashes, per se, CHANKA, Lagchun, mansonvibes and Kendy Suen, and surprise music lovers with crossovers. Themed as “Music Palate”, the programme spins into four nights of different music sensations that echoes the flavour – “sweet, sour, bitter and spicy”. Special-edition craft beer will be paired by Lau Bak Livehouse for audience to double up the surprise with taste and sound.
