EVENT DESCRIPTION

With the Year of the Rabbit just around the corner, the Development Bureau (“DEVB”) and the Harbourfront Commission (“HC”) are presenting “Fantastic 6@Victoria Harbourfront”, featuring pop-up Chinese New Year installations at six harbourfront sites. Local artists who created the popular characters “Nick the Robot”, “Chocolate Rain” and “Din Dong” were invited to design the installations.

With different New Year greetings as themes, the artists have combined lighting, art and interactive games to create six unique harbourfront shared spaces dedicated to Chinese New Year as well as Valentine’s Day. They are “Nick the Robot’s Adventure” at the Belcher Bay Promenade in Kennedy Town, the 9-metre-high “LED Chinese Drum” at the HarbourChill in Wan Chai, “Chocolate Rain 12 Chinese Zodiac Signs” at the Water Sports and Recreation Precinct in Wan Chai, the 15-metre-long “Fire Dragon” installation at the Revitalised Typhoon Shelter Precinct in Causeway Bay, the 4-metre-high 3D “Bamboo Wish” art installation at the East Coast Park Precinct in Fortress Hill, and the “Din Dong Chinese New Year Parade” installation at the Tsuen Wan Promenade. During this Chinese New Year holiday, families can take a healthy “walk of luck” around the harbourfront sites, soak up some vitamin D and shed those festival pounds!

The six harbourfront sites have also been created with environmental awareness in mind: in early February, the same installations will be given a facelift to reflect Lantern Festival and Valentine’s Day themes. Couples can take in the magnificent view of Victoria Harbour and share some romantic time together while checking out the six highly Instagrammable sites. In the following months, the installations will be further upcylced, thereby optimising resources while showcasing the vitality and versatility of the harbourfront areas.

The pop-up Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day installations and activities at the six harbourfront sites are exclusively sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“HKJC”), as one of the many initiatives supported by the HKJC’s approved donation of HK$630 million to the HKSAR Government to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, demonstrating that the HKJC is resolute in pursuing its purpose of acting continuously for the betterment of our society, all in support of creating stronger communities together.
