Cang Yuan: Awakening of Consciousness

EVENT DESCRIPTION

After The Realm Without Shape – French Art Exhibition became an important part of the exhibition event in Le French May 2022, Art of Nature once again collaborates with the Le French May in 2023, to present the Cang Yuan: Awakening of Consciousness, a solo exhibition showcasing the new abstract paintings from “Conscience Series” created by Cang Yuan, a French-based artist. The exhibition will be on view from June 2 to July 14.

If the past works of Cang can be described as a fusion of the refined natural spirit of the real world and the artist’s subjectivity, then after the change in the creative style in 2021, his creation has transformed into a poetic expression rooted in personal introspection and spirituality. The “Consciousness Series” encompasses Cang’s further philosophical exploration of this theme, revealing the interpretation of human consciousness experience, calligraphy, and religious ideas through his works. It further shows his transcendence of the framework of abstract art, and his control of aesthetic language and color.

The lines in the painting are like the departure of the artist’s consciousness, born through the veins of the body and the control of hands, finally materialized on the canvas. The movement and flow of paints, the effects of textures, the contrast of light and darkness, the mastery of spatial depth or enclosure, the conflicting and dramatic effects of the image, as well as the simplicity and purity, are all combined with bright, saturated tones of red, pink, yellow, and light green, presenting the artist’s transcendence in abstract form, concept, and pure aesthetics. The artist’s distinctive personality and unique painting style will also leave a profound impression on the audience.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Born in 1979, French-based Chinese painter, holder of Doctorate in arts. He studied at the School of Plastic Arts at Paris VIII University and then at the Ecole Supérieure Libre d'Art de Paris (ESLAP) where he obtained the National Diploma of Doctor in plastic art. Currently he works as Deputy Director of the Ecole Supérieure Libre d'Art de Paris (ESLAP). Cang specialized in the study of portraits of the British painter Francis Bacon. He has also accomplished a series of research in philosophy, aesthetics, art history and oil painting.

He has participated in numerous exhibitions including Salon d'Automne and Contemporary Art Cannes Biennale, American Miami International Art Fair (2014), the 6th Silk Road and International Arts Festival and “Truth & Imagery” - Franch Contemporary Art Exhibition (2019), Art of Nature “Cang Yuan: Aesthetic Essence” solo exhibition (2020), “The Path of Light” French Art Exhibition with five French and Chinese masters (2021), and “Awakening Of Consciousness” solo exhibition (2023). Cang was awarded the Silver Medal of the Exhibition of the European Academy of Contemporary Art (2013), Art Achievement Award of the National Academy of Contemporary Art Competition (2014), Morgan City Award of Exhibition of Contemporary Art in Cannes (2015).

Cang is known for his ability of integratingthe East and West culture. His artworkmerges perfectly between the aesthetics of the east and artistic spirit of the west. Through injecting the skills and concept of the western art into the traditional Chinese aesthetics implications. His art pieces are vivid, yet naturally colorful and cadenced with contemporary art concepts. He is also known as “the new representative of Western contemporary abstraction”.
