EVENT DESCRIPTION

HART, a not-for-profit arts organisation, launches the sixth session of its signature programme “HART Social Studio” to provide incubation support to 19 local and global artists from diverse backgrounds to create, experiment and evolve their art practices in a social setting. Acknowledging the importance of arts appreciation and pop-culture preservation, the organisation welcomes its first animation artist, Man-lok Law, to the community. Man-lok is a Hong Kong-based artist specialised in creating digitalised animations and comics which symbolise his memories and sentiments on local cultures and social phenomena.

HART Social Studio caters not only established artists but also promising talents with visions and passion to join the arts industry. This year, HART will kick start the sponsorship to the Department of Fine Arts of The Chinese University of Hong Kong on the Graduation Exhibition 2022, a new initiative on top of the existing partnership with the Academy of Visual Arts of Hong Kong Baptist University which comes to the third year. The most outstanding young artists will enjoy a scholarship of HK$2,500, a seat in HART Social Studio for 3 to 6 months, one-year free access to HART-organised activities and free consultation with HART’s director.

The first Social Studio Showcase in 2022 is Trans/versal. Trans/versal is an open-ended idea that speaks about our individual experiences connected through a shared community. Suggesting that beyond culture and place there is a common line that allows for shared human experience and our need for community that transcends artificial borders.

No matter where we go geographically, we find hope in our ability to make connections despite our different cultural backgrounds. Beyond intellectual terms there is something intangible. Beautiful and layered with meaning that makes spaces wherever you go seem familiar yet different. Frames and borders easily become blurred by shared experience and the common lines of human experience.

Thirteen of our HART Social Studio Programme artists will present their works, oscillating from paintings, sculptures, and installations, all created throughout the artists’ day-to-day art-marking in HART Haus.
