EVENT DESCRIPTION

For a taste of nature, look no further, because the city centre boasts plenty of greenery. This year, embrace the great outdoors at the Central Harbourfront Event Space, where the annual SummerFest brings us “Wild in the City”. Breathe in the light sea breeze, take in the sunset and starlight, join in the various activities and performances. There is an oasis to be found in this concrete jungle.

From July 16 to September 18, this year’s SummerFest will be held for a total of nine weeks.

Programmes:

Ping Pong Art Fun
Date: July 16 to September 18
Time: 4pm – 10pm

With the support of the NFT organisation Art4Raise, ping pong tables have been transformed into trendy paintings by local artist Mr. Japin. It’s a perfect mix of sports and arts. Come and explore the joys of playing ping pong amongst colourful artworks in this ‘outdoor gallery’ for a whole new experience.

City Camping
Date: July 16 to September 18
Time: 4pm – 10pm

Camping in the countryside is perhaps nothing new, but have you ever lain down in the bustling city centre and relaxed? Bring your own tent and camp out in the designated area where you not only enjoy the azure sky and blue sea, but also play with the surrounding installations “Mantis Madness”, “Wild Snails” and even “Lumi-Forest”, created by local mixed media designer Calix especially for this summer.

Desert Mirage
Date: July 16 to September 18
Time: 4pm – 10pm

Indulge in the arid desert ambience surrounded by cactus bushes. Kids can also tire themselves out with the water sprinklers and inflatable toys in the adjoining “Wild Playground”.

Hong Kong Neon — The Unfinished Business
Date: July 31 to September 18
Time: 4pm – 10pm

For decades, the streets of Hong Kong lit up in clusters of overlapping yet one-of-a-kind neon signs have been the city’s iconic night view. With the lights fading and its industry declining, the NGO Tetra Neon Exchange (TNX) which is committed to the conservation of this unique heritage, brings to SummerFest a series of preserved and somewhat restored dining outlet neon signs, plus various guided tours and talks in a later stage, to encourage rediscovery of Hong Kong neon, i.e. its past, present, possible future and more. To lift the veil on the even lesser-known side of Hong Kong neon, restoration process will also be conducted on site.

Cinema in the Wild – “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon” & “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain”
Date: July 30
Time: 5:30pm – 9pm

Co-organised by the Film Culture Centre, two selected fantastic films “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon” and “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain” will be shown at 5:30pm and 7pm respectively. With a large LED screen, movie lovers are free to enjoy a unique, free-of-charge viewing experience, with no ticket required.

Les Mills Night@Beat the Fitness Night
Date: August 5 and 7
Time: 6pm – 9:30pm

Enjoy an energetic evening with strong beats and music by participating in the three Les Mills classes, namely Body Combat, Body Jam and Body Balance. As the professional coach leads the workout session on stage, off-stage is also divided into different areas, where a variety of sports booths with different themes are provided, so that everyone can experience all kinds of sports with a fun and positive energy.

Central Fantasy
Date: August 12
Time: 6pm – 9pm

After a busy week of work, it’s time to slow down and let go of all the heavy burdens on this Friday evening. Take in the sea breeze, relax and enjoy this three-hour outdoor concert. Follow the music and see where the fantasy leads you.

Hong Kong Street Dance Festival
Date: August 20
Time: 3pm – 9pm

The Festival brings 20 of the most sought-after street dance teams and crews to the Central Harbourfront where different styles and unique moves are exhibited through the competition, live DJ party and workshops of six different street dance styles. Let’s shake your body with stylish energetic ones.

Traditional West African Drum & Dance Guided Tour 【FÖLÖKO · BACK TO THE HEART】2.0
Date: August 28
Time: 3pm – 7pm

Let the humming and drumming take you away from the hustle and bustle. Thrill to the dances accompanied by traditional West African drums, be introduced to various kinds of unique instruments and learn to play them, and find yourself taken to the tribes of a continent far away.

Mellow Music Festival
Date: September 4
Time: 12nn – 10pm

With a number of established and up-and-coming bands lined up, this family-friendly festival focuses on playing laid-back and relaxing music such as folk, acoustic and light jazz.
