EVENT DESCRIPTION

Carnaby Fair is delighted to partner with The Stallery to present Hong Kong’s first ‘CAP-ART’ exhibition entitled SUB9TURE featuring seven capsule collections by local Hong Kong creators to be displayed at The Stallery from 20 November 2021 to 13 February 2022. Transforming the gallery space into a creative studio, visitors are invited to explore the diverse sub-cultures through the perspective of the featured artists, who will showcase works including digital installations, large-scale displays, and engaging interactive experiences.

In support of Hong Kong’s local creative community, Carnaby Fair has invited seven sub- culture artists to create wearable art by imprinting their rebellious aesthetic onto a canvas of caps, t-shirts and NFT digital art. The artists collaborating on this cross-media project range from street artists, animators, drag performers, illustrators, and tattoo artists, including The
Plumber King (渠王), Ernest Chang, BOMS, DaddyBoy®️, Cynthia Luk, Son of Fire Month and Metal Day (丁月金日子), and Muschi.

Beyond the gallery exhibition, SUB9TURE will also host a large-scale collaborative graffiti jamming by the cult-figure and street artist, Mr. Yim (also known as ‘The Plumber King’) in conjunction with contemporary graffiti artist BOMS. Celebrating Hong Kong street culture and its legacy, this cross-generational artwork symbolizes the unity of modern and traditional graffiti art. Through this collaborative work, visitors will have the chance to witness the creativity and history of Hong Kong graffiti culture.

In addition, the Hong Kong public are invited to contribute to the wall by tagging specially- designed cartoon character stickers created by Ernest Chang to add their voice to this collective work from 10 December 2021 to 13 February 2022.

Lastly, the exhibition will offer Carnaby Fair’s first NFT collection, supported by NFT marketplace Refinable. This collection features digital artworks of unique Hong Kong local characters wearing selected art-caps displayed at the exhibition. Beyond these digital collectibles, the owners of Carnaby Fair NFTs will also have priority access to future activities and limited-edition product drops. The auction will be live from 21 to 28 November 2021.

A portion of proceeds from the exhibition will benefit V Cycle, a social enterprise that supports Hong Kong poverty alleviation and COVID-19 stress relief. V Cycle’s projects empower the underprivileged and protect the natural world through ecological and social initiatives.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Rooted in Hong Kong cultural influences, Carnaby Fair began as a cap wear brand representing contemporary subcultures within today’s society. Blending art, culture & fashion, the brand embodies an important ethos: unapologetically authentic. We see caps as a statement headpiece for people to express freely.

The Stallery WCH is an art studio and gallery in one based in the historic Stone Nullah Lane neighborhood in Wanchai, Hong Kong. Founded in 2014 as a contemporary atelier, The Stallery not only offers an exhibition space, but also an intimate place for visitors to experience art making in-person. Since its opening, The Stallery has become home to a vibrant community for local and visiting artists and the public to engage in grassroots and community-based artistic engagement. In recent years, it has hosted exhibitions for local Hong Kong, French, and American artist collaborations such as Baö Ho’s Mukashi Mukashi, Le French May’s Faat Gok Gaai Tau Saa Lung, Tim Marsh’s Geometric Acrobatics, BOMS’ Post No Bill and Jason Pulgarin’s Dinner Is Served.
