EVENT DESCRIPTION

This year is the 40th anniversary of Zuni Icosahedron. An original performance “Soundscape Magic Flute“ will kick off this celebratory season. With the aid of the latest Arts Tech, Zuni is bringing audience, kids and adults alike, a brand-new theatre experience.

“Soundscape Magic Flute” brings you the magical power of Art Technology. Combining classics with innovative technology, this Music Theatre for Kids offers an immersive and interactive experience to our audience. It shows how the seven virtues, as the moral of the story, could easily be illustrated and represented in art, and tells a story of humility, kindness, perseverance, diligence, charity, temperance, and innocence.

Adapted from Mozart’s Magic Flute, Soundscape Magic Flute invites audience to embark on a musical journey to learn one of the greatest timeless classics. With songs like “This Image Is Enchantingly Lovely”, “The Birdcatcher Am I”, and eight other tunes, all re-lyricised in Chinese and produced with the state-of-the-art technology Soundscape, audience are welcome to enter the land of fairy tale and the heart of the seven virtues.

‘Virus – ugh. Not again!’ Coronavirus has swept the world for over two years. It has utterly changed how children would spend their childhood. Even though the word ‘virus’ has been so firmly registered in the minds of the young, the extraordinary team of creatives and cast has adeptly put together an original adaptation of The Magic Flute – a story that begins with a virus.

In a distant universe, Queen Charity catches the “greed virus” and turns stingy. She throws the world out of balance with her magic. Black and white are reversed. The cycle of day and night is stifled. Peace is suspended. Meanwhile, Prince Perseverance sets out on a quest to look for magical gadgets to restore balance. He encounters Bird Catcher Diligence, Princess Innocence, and High Priest Kindness. With the help of Immortal Temperance, can they expel the mutant virus that makes people gluttonous, lazy, angry, and jealous, and restore the seven virtues to the world?

It is a tale that celebrates tradition and innovation, truth, and fairy tale, arts, and education. Younger audience is invited to reflect upon what truly matters in the face of adversity. This music theatre experience will not only bring moving music and laughter to families, but also show kids how vital it is to exercise virtues in trying times.
