EVENT DESCRIPTION

Opening on Monday 20th March on the 9th Floor of H Queens, a major gallery hub in Central Hong Kong, Postmodern Tales, is a showcase of contemporary art practices in Hong Kong that touches on the diversity of human experience, and multiplicity of perspectives, captured within the local contemporary art ecology.

Postmodern Tales probes into histories, personal memories and locality through experimental captures, bringing contexts of culture and identity formation to light. Curated by Vera Lam, Director of HART, the exhibition features new works by Damian Boylan, Vaevae Chan, Michele Chu, Natalie Chu Lok Ting, Amy Tong, Merryn Trevethan, Nicholas Wong and Wu Jiaru, some of Hong Kong’s most exciting emerging artists. Each artist adopts a multidisciplinary practice that is grounded in their understanding of the use of medium, probing into topics of postmodernity around human intimacy, rituals, and the rejection of universal hopes and fears. Please see the attached press release for further information.

The eight artists presented are current artists-in-residence at HART Haus, the 10,000 square foot incubation space located in Kennedy Town, Hong Kong, run by the HART Collective. It is from here that HART runs their Social Studio programme designed to actively cultivate imagination and exchange between resident artists, and facilitate  cross pollination between artistic practices and identities. Postmodern Tales is a reflection of HART’s long term vision; to inspire broader conversations on contemporary artistic developments and propel the birth of new junctures and possibilities.
