Day & Evening Sales to Feature Works by Pierre- Auguste Renoir, George Condo, David Hockney, Matthew Wong, Ernie Barnes and a Group of Rising Female Stars
Phillips’ Hong Kong Spring Auctions of 20th Century & Contemporary Art & Design will take place from 21-22 June, with preview exhibitions starting on 18 June at the JW Marriott Hotel in Admiralty.
The sales will encompass works by Modern and Contemporary masters, as well as works by the most in-demand artists on the market today. This season, Phillips also presents ULTRA/NEO themed series, which features a group of up-and-coming international artists such as Javier Calleja, Edgar Plans, Rafa Macarrón, Issy Wood, Danielle Orchard, Melissa Brown, Aboudia and Robert Nava. This follows the success of Phillips’ ULTRA/NEO series introduced in the Hong Kong Fall Sales last year, which shined a spotlight on a new generation of ultra-contemporary Asian artists.
As Phillips will soon be relocating its Asia headquarters, designed by LAAB Architects, to the West Kowloon Cultural District. This season’s Pantone Room featured in the exhibition at the JW Marriott Hotel will be designed by LAAB, featuring [Pantone 16-4002 TSX] Concrete Grey and a spectrum of warm yellow colours, the inspiration for which came from the magical hour in the West Kowloon Cultural District when the sunlight gradually changes the colour of the concrete facades of the Herzog & de Meuron-designed building. As the sun changes its angle, the horizon also opens up, embracing a world of new possibilities and transformation. A spectrum of yellow chambers with curated furniture and artworks, invisible at first sight, then gradually revealed as visitors move from one end of the Pantone Room to the other.
