EVENT DESCRIPTION

Meta Nostalgia, a brand new pop-up NFT digital art exhibition, is taking place at Tower 535, Causeway Bay. Co-presented by Hong Kong art and tech start-up Artistsverse, Phoenix Property Investors and VFXNova, and supported by Samsung, the exhibition features 9 local artists, including Hong Kong award-winning director for visual effects and new media artist Victor Wong, renowned Hong Kong comic artist Elphonso Lam, Hong Kong-based photographers Sean Foley and Derry Ainsworth, etc. with an aim to revisiting the collective memories of Hong Kong pop culture in an immersive art environment.

Causeway Bay has long been an iconic symbol of Hong Kong. Over the decades, it has inspired numerous classic local movies. Landmarks such as DAIMARU, MITSUKOSHI, President Shopping Center, The Excelsior, Hong Kong, Palace Theatre and Goldfinch Restaurant, etc., all carry the collective memories for the people of Hong Kong. Situated in the centre of Causeway Bay, Meta Nostalgia is thoughtfully curated to recreate the collective memories of the old Hong Kong through the most cutting-edge art technology including interactive digital art installations and virtual reality. Showcasing the vibrant city life of Hong Kong, the exhibition is set to create a first-of-its kind immersive art theatre experience for the visitors.

Artistsverse is delighted to present a sensational immersive art room “Meta Art Theatre” by award-winning new media artist Victor Wong; “Hong Kong Girl Group”, the first series of NFT art that has ever been created by local comic artist Elphonso Lam; “Couple reunited in Paterson Street”, a new series of NFT art by Hong Kong renowned digital artist, Henry Chu, etc. The exhibition also features works by several emerging digital artists, including a series of NFT photography works featuring the classic Hong Kong-style night scene by Sean Foley and Derry Ainsworth, as well as contemporary neon light art installations by Sharmaine Kwan which takes a nostalgic look at Hong Kong’s neon-drenched nightscape. Visitors are welcomed to join to celebrate and reminisce about the good old days (Belle Époque) of Hong Kong.

In collaboration with Metautopia, a local art and technology education group, Artistsverse is proud to present the first metaverse art course for children in Hong Kong. Specially designed to help the next generation realise their creative potential, the course will introduce some basic knowledge of NFT art creation through interactive games. In the course, participants can create their own digital artwork under the guidance of art tech experts, and they can choose to mint them into a unique NFT. Those who have completed the course will receive a certificate issued by the Hong Kong Blockchain Industry Association to acknowledge their completion of the course.

Mr. Heiman Ng, Curator of Artistsverse, says, “As a creative collective focused on promoting the development of art and culture with technology, Artistsverse strives to work closely with the local art and tech community to instil confidence, hope and optimism in our community as we have seen a ubiquitous sense of hopelessness about the future of Hong Kong. In this physical exhibition, we hope that the audience can get to know more about the relationship between traditional art and digital art as well as the future possibilities of NFT and virtual reality through an interactive art and technology experience.”

Artistsverse proudly partner with Samsung to further promote and support the development of art and technology, leveraging Samsung’s latest Neo QLED technologies, as well as the home cinema Premiere and The Frame to deliver a wider range of color volume, re-defining the ideal viewing experiences.
