About The Speaker

Chris Shum is a celebrated lyricist with works spanning musicals, plays, movies, television dramas and pop music.

With the song Perhaps Love, he won a Best Original Film Song Award at the Golden Horse Awards and a CASH Golden Sail Music Award. He also received a Hong Kong Film Award for Best Original Film Song for the theme song of The Last Tycoon. In 2018, Shum wrote the script and lyrics for Pica Pica Choose, a collaborative production by Mr Wing Theatre Company in Taiwan and Yat Po Singers in Hong Kong. He has been actively participating in more than 70 theatre productions include the script and lyrics for The Woman In Kenzo The Musical – an adaption of Mary Chin’s novel produced by Chung Ying Theatre Company, This Victoria Has No Secrets for Yat Po Singers, La Cage aux Folles for Hong Kong Repertory Theatre and the lyrics for The Passage Beyond for Actors’ Family.

About The Guest

iMus Academy is a local volunteer music teaching organisation aiming to connect the underprivileged with music. Receiving authentic musical training costs much more than you can imagine. The economically disadvantaged kids should be given a chance to explore their musical talents. We, therefore, gather the selfless and passionate volunteer teachers and match them up with venue providers from all parts of Hong Kong. We believe our weekly musical training delivers knowledge, skill, as well as the concept of ‘Love and Care’. Music is the best media to link up every single one in the community.

About The Event

No one can resist a vivid and entertaining musical! The complicated emotional contents of musical theatre, mainly its story and aspects like love, anger and conflicts, are communicated via words, movement and, of course, music, all integrated together into one. Songs are undoubtedly the essential component of dramatic presentations. While first line of melody catches your ears and conveys emotions, lyrics tells the actual story. The tiniest word can have an immense impact.

We are honoured to have invited Chris Shum, the celebrated musicals lyricist in Hong Kong, to take us through his unconventional approach in lyrics-writing and the intriguing stories in this work of art.
