LeE-papa: Somewhere in Time

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Graphic designer and illustrator LeE-papa is holding his first solo exhibition “Somewhere in Time” from 1 to 30 October at the Jockey Club Lei Yue Mun Plus. It features a total of 34 works including 17 paintings created in digital drawing style. The exquisite works depict renowned historic buildings in Hong Kong such as the HSBC Main Building (Third Design), Western Market, Blue House, Mido Café, Woo Cheong Pawn Shop and Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre.

Each painting is presented alongside a photograph of the historic building taken by LeE-papa especially for the exhibition. Viewers are invited to reminisce about the history and intriguing stories behind these iconic historic buildings.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Hong Kong’s amateur illustrator LeE-papa works full-time as a graphic designer. In 2013, he published his first comic book “Chicken Soup for New Parents”. The book illustrates the interesting “imprints” from pregnancy to the early years of his first daughter.

Since 2019, LeE-papa is enthused about painting Hong Kong’s historic buildings or structures in digital drawing style. On 8th October, 2019, he posted his first digital art (Lok Po House) in his personal Facebook. It is an old residential apartment in the neighbourhood that LeE-papa has grown up in. It received positive feedback. Since then, LeE-papa has drawn a series of architectures in which most of them are being named officially historic buildings in Hong Kong. Nevertheless, some of the buildings LeE-papa has chosen to draw are either being demolished (even though they are on the list of historic buildings in Hong Kong) or with the potential to be graded historic buildings in Hong Kong.

In March 2021, LeE-papa has founded “archimprint” to showcase his digital artworks in Facebook and Instagram. He wants to provide a free online platform for public to recall their “imprints” of these “architectures” with heritage through his digital illustrations.

As of summer 2022, LeE-papa has created 17 digital artworks. He is still committed and continues working hard to document Hong Kong’s buildings with historical value in digital form.
