2 July 2022 - 2 January 2023

EVENT DESCRIPTION

The horse is a unique source of inspiration for human creativity with universal and timeless appeal. This exhibition features 111 equine artworks from the Palace Museum, including some of the finest paintings and sculptures. These works are juxtaposed with the 13 loans from Musée du Louvre.

The exhibition is divided into five sections.

Section One: A triumphant note in the golden ages of the Han and Tang
dynasties with classic representations of the horse

Section Two: Roaming around the fantastical realm of winged horses, hippocampi, and deified horses

Section Three: A trot for tender moments of everyday interactions between horses and humans, which are seen on a bamboo brush holder, gourd cricket cage, lacquer box, and other quotidian objects

Section Four: Spectacle of paintings and sculptures portraying imperial hunts, kinghood, and war

Section Five: A traverse across national and regional borders, galloping past Nepal, Iran, Turkey, to England
