Programme

John ADAMS | Tromba Lontana
John ADAMS | Short Ride in a Fast Machine
RACHMANINOV | Piano Concerto no. 4
DVOŘÁK | Symphony no. 9, From the New World
When European composers travelled to America, they were torn between wonder at the New World and nostalgia for the old. Rachmaninov captured the glitter and the energy of America, and pianist Chiyan Wong is our soloist today. Dvořák, meanwhile, poured all his emotion into a symphony that overflows with melody: visuals by Tobias Melle will help bring his story to life. And conductor Wilson Ng begins with two dazzling fanfares by one of America’s greatest living composers, the inimitable John Adams.

The concert runs approximately 1.5 hours with an intermission.
