Despite a three week hotel quarantine, Berlin-based pianist Chiyan Wong returned to his hometown in March 2021 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, and gave a heart-felt recital to live audience. For the first time in almost six months, classical music lovers gathered in a concert hall again for the inspiration of a live music performance. As the centrepiece of his stunning programme, the award-winning pianist shared his unique interpretation of Busoni’s kaleidoscopic arrangement of Bach’s classic Goldberg Variations.

Through the interviews with the audiences, the artist and the presenter, Premiere Performances’ first concert film documents the long-awaited return of live music during the pandemic.

Chiyan Wong will be joining us for post-screening sharing on 15 and 23 January. The film will be screened in 4K.
