EVENT DESCRIPTION

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will present three dance films with distinctive styles and techniques as part of its “Dance On Screen” Series in September. Ranging from a documentary, a dance theatre to a stage performance, the selected screen presentations demonstrate the charisma and imagination of renowned dance companies and choreographers on the stage and behind the curtain.

The three selected films are as follows:

“Behind the Wall” – A Documentary on Dimitris Papaioannou (Film Screening) (Greece) (2019)
———————————————————————————————————
Date and time: September 17 (Saturday), 3pm
Synopsis: By following the preparation of “Still Life”, the renowned theatre performance created by the celebrated Greek dance theatre director, choreographer and visual artist Dimitris Papaioannou, the documentary explores the artist’s vision and philosophy as well as his working method and routine, thus bringing out the symbiotic relationship between life and work to great artists.

“Mist” (Dance Film) by Nederlands Dans Theater (The Netherlands) (2022)
————————————————————————————
Date and time: September 17 (Saturday), 5pm
Synopsis: As the debut creation by the famous choreographer Damien Jalet for the internationally acclaimed Nederlands Dans Theater, “Mist” is a collaboration with Japanese visual artist Kohei Nawa that shows the dynamics of the nature under fog banks. Through a visually stunning contemporary dance performance, the film enables the exploration of the ephemeral space between reality and mirage.

“Faust” (Stage Performance Screening) by Ballett Dortmund (Germany) (2016)
—————————————————————————————-
Date and time: September 18 (Sunday), 3pm
Synopsis: Taking the legend of Faust, the protagonist of Goethe’s classic, as the original concept, choreographer Wang Xinpeng traces the story arc from the Middle Ages to the present, and invites audiences to a magical and mystical world, presenting the dark sides of humanity with a contemporary ballet performance.
