EVENT DESCRIPTION

Hong Kong start-up, BEAM+ LAB, is launching the Hong Kong classic movie-themed NFT collectible, CRYPTYQUES, on 18 June 2022. To celebrate the launch, BEAM+ LAB is presenting an interactive exhibition at the new art gallery and event space, Haus of Contemporary, from 8 to 26 June. The interactive exhibition aims to bridge the gap between the physical world and web3.0 by offering a hybrid experience that unlocks the metaverse. A series of workshops, screenings and talks will be hosted during the exhibition period, inviting everyone to explore the metaverse community and discover the stories behind CRYPTYQUES.

The exhibition will span two floors within the space. Highlighted experiences on the ground floor include a fog screen projection showing CRYPTYQUES NFTs clippings, limited free posters featuring scenes from My Heart Is That Eternal Rose, 1989 (Chinese: 殺手蝴蝶夢) and Nomad, 1982 (Chinese: 烈火青春), and a pop-up café Zendo offering special coffee sleeves printed with the movie scenes for all coffee orders.

On the first floor, guests will see a special screening of music scores performed by members of Hong Kong Hip-Hop group LMF and members of Hong Kong rock band Chochukmo (觸執毛) created for CRYPTYQUES, along with a photography exhibition of “Desire” NFTs, the first series of CRYPTYQUES collectible, a movie poster exhibition, and screenings of the 4K Remastered of Nomad. The most anticipated Raw Emotions X CRYPTYQUES collaboration will be available starting on Friday June 10, for visitors to purchase online. CRYPTYQUES is masterminded by renowned Hong Kong-based photographer and director Wing Shya. The launch will occur in three phases: past, present, and future, in the cycle of life. The first series of the “past” phase will focus on the “7 Emotions”, including Desire, Fury, Fear, Joy, Bitterness, Loathe and Love. Each of the seven emotions is a collection of NFTs derived and reinterpreted from Mei Ah Entertainment Group’s movies.

The initial drop is a collection of 1,320 NFTs of classic Hong Kong movie scenes from My Heart Is That Eternal Rose and Nomad, reflecting the strong emotional yearnings of “Desire” which have been recreated as 3D-animated video clips by Shya and an internationally-acclaimed Hollywood production team, using point cloud technology.

CRYPTYQUES will be available in the format of mystery boxes, minting directly on the website (cryptyques.com) on 18 June, price to be announced 1 week before mint date; some of these NFTs have ‘PASS’ properties, and will receive AirDrop in the future. An exclusive 1/1 unique NFT will be auctioned in July.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

CRYPTYQUES is helmed by the renowned Hong Kong photography and cinema figure, Wing Shya, whose oeuvre is famed for his cinematic approach of raw-colored poignancy coming from movies including In The Mood For Love and Happy Together. Led by Wing Shya's artistic vision of the CRYPTYQUES universe, the NFTs contain classic cinema moments that have been recreated using 3D technology by an internationally-acclaimed Hollywood production team.

The evolving nature of CRYPTYQUES provides opportunities for its community to contribute in a meaningful way, together making decisions for future NFT launches, design, and events.
