Clockenflap 2023

3 March 2023 - 5 March 2023

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Clockenflap, Hong Kong’s biggest international outdoor music and arts festival, today announced the news that fans have been waiting to hear: the legendary event is returning to Central Harbourfront in March 2023. Following a three-year hiatus, the much-loved festival is 100% confirmed to take place from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 March 2023.

Reclaiming its place as one of the most globally renowned events on Hong Kong’s cultural calendar, Clockenflap will return with the full, world-class festival experience that music fans in the city have come to know and love: a spectacular outdoor environment featuring multiple stages; a tempting array of irresistible F&B outlets; and an eclectic lineup of must-see international, regional and local acts. The event will also be free standing, with festivalgoers able to move easily and without restriction between the various stages and attractions throughout the weekend.

The March 2023 event will mark the 12th edition of Clockenflap, and the festival’s return will be a reason to celebrate for lovers of live music and arts in Hong Kong and across the region. Launched at Cyberport in 2008, before moving to the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade in 2011 and then Central Harbourfront in 2016, Clockenflap has forged an unparalleled reputation for creating a friendly, fun and cutting-edge festival experience, and its absence has been keenly felt by music fans in the city over the past four years.

Clockenflap is also known for embracing genres from across the musical spectrum, and its world-class lineup has won plaudits all around the world. Buzzfeed called it “Asia’s answer to Coachella”, while two-time Clockenflap performer Nile Rodgers named it as his favourite festival globally, saying: “It’s awesome. It’s so beautiful, the way the sun sets on the stage. It’s completely magical.”

Topping the bill as the Friday night headliners are British rock icons Arctic Monkeys, who will play in Hong Kong for the first time fresh from the release of their seventh studio album, The Car. Alex Turner & Co. will be joined on Friday by French synth-rockers Phoenix, who return to the city for the first time since 2014, and Hong Kong hip-hop don YoungQueenz.

Saturday will welcome French multi-instrumentalist FKJ and Norwegian folk-pop duo Kings of Convenience to the stage, while Sunday will be lit up by Canadian-Japanese singer-songwriter Milet, German electronic supergroup Moderat (Modeselektor and Apparat combined), and Japanese experimental rock legends MONO.

Other highlights include Canadian indie darlings Men I Trust (Fri), Thai favourites Three Man Down (Sun) and HYBS (Sat), Japanese indie-rockers Hitsujibungaku (Sat), British jazz quintet Ezra Collective (Sun), Hong Kong rapper Tyson Yoshi (Sat), American indie soul project Ginger Root(Sat), and hotly-tipped Taiwanese singer- songwriter LÜCY (Sat).

In all, 30 acts have been revealed in the first wave announcement, with many more still to come, including the Saturday and Sunday headliners.

The much-loved event, which returns to the city for the first time since November 2018, will feature the same full, world-class festival experience that has wowed fans in previous years: a spectacular outdoor environment featuring multiple stages; an eclectic array of top F&B outlets; and a wide-ranging lineup of must-see international, regional and local acts. As before, it will also be a free-standing event, with festivalgoers able to move easily and without restriction between the various stages and attractions throughout the weekend.
