Chamber Music Connections: Scent of Music

25 November 2022 - 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

$180 – $300

EVENT DESCRIPTION

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will present the concert “Chamber Music Connections: Scent of Music” in November, when audiences can listen to lyrical works from female composers presented by local chamber music talents and appreciate floral works specifically paired for each music piece to review the unique style of each composition through the language of flowers by a florist, drawing this year’s “Chamber Music Connections” series to a perfect ending.

The concert will feature seven selected music pieces of different periods, all by renowned female composers, including “Jasmine Flower” by contemporary American composer Victoria Bond. The piece uses the melody of a traditional Chinese folk song as a point of reference for a new twist. There is also “Street Scene, Des Voeux Road, Central” (from “City Impressions”) by local composer Joyce Tang. Meanwhile, the opening pieces of the first and second parts of the concert will be Clara Schumann’s “Three Romances, Op. 22” and Amy Beach’s “Romance, Op. 23” respectively. Other classics include Rebecca Clarke’s “Lullaby and Grotesque for Viola and Cello”, Mendelssohn-Hensel’s “Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 11” and Florence Price’s “Piano Quintet in A minor”.

The concert will be performed by a group of local chamber music talents, including Linda Yim (piano), Vanessa Wong (piano), Amelia Chan (violin), Nina Wong (violin), Chan Wai-bun (viola), Pun Chak-yin (cello) and Stephenie Ng (clarinet).

To highlight the aesthetics of flowers and music, the decoration of the venue will also be thoughtfully planned. By displaying unique floral works designed by florist Kenny Chan for each musical piece at the admission point of the concert, it is hoped that the audience will be greeted with the fragrance and colours of flowers before entering the theatre, and enjoy the concert with a romantic and relaxed ambience.

A pre-concert talk (to be conducted in Cantonese) will be held at 6.45pm on November 25 at the Foyer Reception Area, 4/F, Auditoria Building, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Linda Yim and Kenny Chan will be the speakers. Admission is free with limited seats available on a first-come, first-served basis and for walk-in only.
