EVENT DESCRIPTION

When it comes to sweets, many people have no resistance to them. The craving is as important as breathing. At the moment of eating, the tiny bits of happiness that we can feel all over our body is indeed remarkable. The sweet atmosphere wraps the taste buds, which cannot only satisfy our momentary appetite, but also bring an infinite sense of satisfaction. Urban people live a hard life of camp and service every day in a high-pressure environment. Having sweets is definitely a small blessing for them and a good medicine to comfort their tired hearts. Although the sense of “simple pleasure” is insignificant, its occurrence and existence can permeate different degrees of sweetness into life. Simple pleasure has the same effect when visiting or when we eat sweets.

CandyMary, a talented artist from Taiwan, once had a “sweet addiction” due to her love of candies. She was very attracted by the colorful wrapping paper and various flavors of sugar-coated candies, she has become a sugar addict under the constant unconscious intake. In this era of information explosion, the beauty function of social media, popular online restaurants, entertainment news, etc. She felt that such information was like an ice cream bucket in the freezer got hollowed out, but it was never refilled. At last, she left an open question worth our self reflection.

“When the happiness of sweets recedes, what else can we enjoy?”

CandyMary’s work style seems childlike and girly. But when you look closely, you will find that the details of women’s skin are quite delicate and real. The microfilaments and blood vessels under the skin are also vividly drawn through CandyMary’s brush. The crystal clear, white and ruddy faces make the faces look more desirous and detailed. It is really valuable for a young artist to have such a meticulous craftsmanship.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

CandyMary, a post-90s artist from Taiwan, is now receiving a master's degree in fine arts at the Art Institute of National Kaohsiung Normal University. She dreamed the same dream from childhood. In the dream, there was endless night, a prairie with grass as high as shoulders. In front of a big river, there is a mountain opposite. At the foot of the mountain, a woman with long hair and white clothes stood looking at me affectionately, so dark that her face could not be seen. She thinks she seems to be my family member. Every time she wakes up, she will be very sad.

The first work of Mary the water ghost was created with the woman in the dream as the creative object and with the strange, mysterious but warm image. With the continuous creation, Mary seems to have her own personality, which will suggest that I create Mary's style, or perhaps my own subconscious dialogue. This exhibition works also want to make the works of the two exhibitions of Hong Kong addictable last year more complete, and also want to raise questions about our perfectly decorated society today.
