EVENT DESCRIPTION

a|n Gallery will present the new exhibition “Almost Silence, Not Black Yet”, showcasing the works of four local artists, Chan Yuk Keung, Law Ka Nam, Ling Pui Sze and Sze Mei Ting. Together the artists explore the possibilities of creation in the space of not-black-yet through various media. The exhibition will be on view from August 26 to September 16, 2022.

The works by the four artists in this joint exhibition are black-based grayscale variants. In the seemingly limited grayscale, the artists express infinite intuition without superfluous colours as decoration.

Chan was graduated from the Department of Fine Arts, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He then obtained his M.F.A. from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Michigan, U.S.A. Chan joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1989, teaching studio courses. He has retired since 2016, focusing in art creation. Chan is now an artist as well as an educator.

Law Ka Nam’s “I am Fine” series consists of 30 ink works and a 3-second animation, reflecting the sacrifices and costs behind the image of success in the eyes of others. Law graduated from the Department of Fine Arts of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2013, and has won the Cheung’s Creative Award. In recent years, his exhibitions include “Post-Anthropocene. Zit-Dim Art Space, Tainan, Taiwan” and his solo exhibition “I am Fine”.

Numerous experimental ink painting and collage works by Ling Pui Sze will be on display. Ling has won the Wucius Wong Creative Ink Painting Award. Her works have been collected by the M+ Museum for Visual Culture in Hong Kong and private collectors.
